What Kind of Company Keeps People?

As I currently understand it, there are three situations:

For new graduates, finding a job is not easy. They may join whichever company takes them, while those with some ability can be more selective.
After a few years of experience, people want to move to a better company for higher pay and better benefits.
Those with experience and resources may start out on their own. Some long-serving employees stay because they are attached to the company or feel awkward about leaving.
Even so, no company can keep everyone. People leave even BAT companies. Being born is not easy, staying alive is not easy, and living is harder still. How would you choose a path you can keep following?
